Safety training is mandatory for all companies in Germany. This requirement is based on several interrelated regulations. Section 12 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (ArbSchG) requires every employer to provide their employees with sufficient and appropriate instruction on safety and health protection, both upon hiring and regularly thereafter. DGUV Regulation 1 (Section 4) specifies the requirements for statutory accident insurance and mandates instruction at least once a year. The Technical Rules for Workplaces apply specifically to tripping, slipping, and falling hazards: ASR A1.5 “Floors” and ASR A1.8 “Traffic Routes” define requirements for safe floor conditions and traffic routes in the workplace.
