Noise protection training is mandatory for all companies in Germany whose employees are exposed to a daily noise exposure level of at least 80 dB(A). This requirement is based on several interrelated regulations. The Occupational Safety and Health Act provides the framework: Sections 4, 5, and 12 of the ArbSchG require every employer to assess hazards, establish protective measures, and regularly train their employees. DGUV Regulation 1 (Section 4) additionally requires training at least once a year. Additional regulations apply specifically to noise: the Noise and Vibration Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance (LärmVibrationsArbSchV), ASR A3.7 on noise in the workplace, and the Occupational Health Care Ordinance (ArbMedVV).
