Explosion protection training is mandatory in Germany for all companies whose employees may be exposed to explosion hazards. This requirement is based on several regulations. Section 12 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (ArbSchG) requires every employer to provide regular training to their employees. Section 12 of the Industrial Safety Regulation (BetrSichV) adds a requirement for special training on working with equipment in potentially explosive areas, while Section 14 of the Hazardous Substances Regulation (GefStoffV) requires training on handling explosive substances, both before starting work and at least once a year thereafter.
