In Germany, training on the proper use of PPE is mandatory for all companies whose employees are required to wear PPE. This requirement is based on several interrelated regulations. Section 12 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (ArbSchG) requires every employer to provide their employees with sufficient and appropriate training on safety and health protection, both upon hiring and on a regular basis thereafter. DGUV Regulation 1 (§ 4) specifies the requirements for statutory accident insurance and mandates training at least once a year. Specifically for protective equipment, § 12 of the Industrial Safety Regulation (BetrSichV) and § 3 of the PPE Usage Regulation (PSA-BV) apply: They require that you instruct your teams on the proper use of PPE, including practical exercises if necessary. Documented PPE training helps you fulfill these obligations in a transparent manner and ensures that the protective equipment functions correctly in everyday use.
