Legal basis & training obligation

What's the legal basis for this course?

Safety instruction in electrical engineering is mandatory in Germany for all companies whose employees work on or near electrical systems. Several regulations interlock to form the basis for this. Section 12 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (ArbSchG) requires every employer to instruct employees adequately and appropriately on safety and health, upon hiring and regularly thereafter. DGUV Regulation 1 (Section 4) specifies this for the statutory accident insurance and requires instruction at least once a year, while DGUV Regulation 3 adds requirements specifically for electrical systems and equipment. The 5 safety rules are part of this basic instruction. Their practical application during work is mandatory under the DIN VDE 0105-100 standard. Documented instruction helps you meet these obligations verifiably and protects your qualified electricians from life-threatening accidents.

Who must be trained?

All electricians and other employees who work on or near electrical installations and may be exposed to electrical hazards.

When is training required?

  • At least once a year
  • Before taking up employment
  • Additionally on special occasions, e.g. changes in tasks or responsibilities, introduction of new equipment, after an electrical accident
