Fire safety training is mandatory for all companies in Germany, regardless of size or industry. This requirement stems from several interrelated legal sources. The Occupational Safety and Health Act (ArbSchG) provides the legal basis: Section 10 of the ArbSchG requires every employer to implement fire prevention measures and designate employees to handle evacuation and firefighting; Section 12 mandates regular training for all employees. DGUV Regulation 1 specifies the details: Section 4 requires training at least once a year, and Section 22 governs the appointment and duties of fire safety officers. ASR A2.2 additionally stipulates how many fire safety officers a company needs and how they are to be trained. In short: Anyone who skips the annual fire safety training violates applicable law and risks liability and fines in the event of damage.
